We recently bought the Dell 2400MP for our church. Our old projector that was replaced was only 1200 lumens bright and cost us $4200 back in the day. But the prices, like much technology, has gotten much more attractive in this category.
For around $1100 (May 2007) we got this 3000 lumen/ 2100 contrast ratio Dell. The brightness is MUCH nicer as well as the image quality. Plus, they give you a very nice travel/carrying case. We are very happy with it. I would suggest going with at least this brightness for most business purposes, especially if you don't want to fight the room lighting. It also has a 1 watt speaker if you need to play some audio through it. My recommendation, though would be just to play stuff through your laptop's audio out though.
